A grand groundbreaking ceremony for the eco-environment-oriented development (EOD) project, organized by the Dachaidan Administrative Committee of Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, and invested and constructed by Concord New Energy Group (CNE), was held at the construction site on January 5.

The EOD project is a national EOD pilot project approved by China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment, National Development and Reform Commission, and China Development Bank. It is also the only EOD project ever built in Qinghai Province and the only EOD pilot project launched by CNE.

With a total investment of 10 billion yuan, the project adopts a new model of “eco-environment overall treatment and restoration benefits + new energy development”. It is a comprehensive demonstration project integrating “overall environmental treatment of the abandoned mine, construction of a mine site park, and establishment of 2000MW photovoltaic storage power station” jointly planned by the Dachaidan Administrative Committee and CNE, which is scheduled to be completed in 2025. The overall treatment of abandoned mine pits in the project already started a month ago.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Tang Wanfeng, secretary of the Party Leadership Group and director of the Qinghai Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, delivered an important speech; Yuan Bin, director of the Dachaidan Administrative Committee, made an address; Yuan Tingyun, vice governor of the People’s Government of Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, delivered a speech and announced the start of the project.

Gui Kai, executive director and CEO of CNE, addressed the ceremony. Meng Haixia, general manager of the Qinghai branch of CNE, briefed on the project. The ceremony was also attended by relevant leaders from Qinghai Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, Haixi Prefecture and Dachaidan Administrative Committee. The groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by Zhang Handong, vice president of CNE, chairman of the Qinghai branch of CNE, and commander-in-chief of the EOD project.

After the completion of the project, it is expected to save 1.5 million tons of standard coal and 5.99 million tons of water, and reduce 120 tons of soot emissions, 280,000 tons of wastewater discharge, and 4.1 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year, thus creating significant environmental benefits. The construction of the project will give full play to the unique strength of Qinghai as a “special zone for green electricity development”. A certain proportion of the expected revenues from industrial projects will be used to feed back comprehensive environmental treatment and promote the efficient utilization of the regional ecological environment and resources, which is of great significance for Qinghai to promote high-quality economic development through high-level environmental protection.
